Here Is Worship
by Craig Castleberry
Scripture: Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth! Worship the Lord with gladness; come before Him with joyful songs. Psalm 100: 1-2
Theme: Worship / Sincerity
Scene Opens: A youth (Youth 1) is standing alone (Center Stage) with arms folded and a sour look on their face. This can be a guy or girl.
Youth 1: (Standing with arms folded, sometimes looking to the ceiling or off to the sides)
Youth 2: Hey, what are you doing? You look so out of it!
Youth 1: (Suddenly smiling like coming out of a trance) Oh, I was just practicing worship!
Youth 2: You were WHAT?
Youth 1: You know, I was practicing how to worship.
Youth 2: THAT was worship? How did you come up with that?
Youth 1: Well, I am new to the church and I have never been in worship before. I just made a decision for Christ last week, you know.
Youth 2: Wait. Let me see you worship one more time.
Youth 1: Sure. (Folds arms again, looks at walls, puts hands in pockets, hangs head down, looks at watch)
Youth 2: OK I think I have seen enough. So who taught you how to worship?
Youth 1: Well, I never asked, I just watched the people around me and did what most of them were doing in worship.
Youth 2: Ohhhhh! NOW I understand. Wow, you are right, most of us really do that when we worship God I think. Even I do that at times. But, others seem to do it all the time. It almost looks like they are getting back at God for the lousy week they are having.
Youth 1: And a lot of them look like they really don’t want to be there, like they are doing God a favor.
Youth 2: I am so sorry it looks that way. That is not worship at all. I’m sure it’s disappointing to God to see people, even with great voices, who refuse to sing in worship.
Youth 1: Yeah, I saw someone raise their hands while we were singing and I thought they just had a question no one would answer. (Laughing with each other)
Youth 2: We all worship differently, but only God knows when we have a true heart of worship. Some people may not like the music, or who is leading the music, or how much time they have to give to worship, or that they might not look cool. They aren’t focusing on God, just themselves and looking for excuses to escape worship.
Youth 1: So we look more angry than thankful that God saved us and wants to be with us forever. I don’t understand it. I mean I see the ones who really talk up Jesus and everyone thinks they are top dog at church.
Youth 2: And then look at how they worship.
Youth 1: Or how they refuse to.
Youth 2: I am so sorry you had to go through that. We don’t worship to impress each other, but as we worship, impressions will be made. Most of all, God knows our hearts and we will have to answer to Him.
Youth 1: (Raises hand)
Youth 2: Have a question?
Youth 1: No, I was just practicing worship!
Youth 2: Very good! Let's get to church and we can do the REAL thing! (Exit off stage)

Study Questions
If
God could only see how much you loved Him by your worship on the outside, would
that be good? And if a lost person
could only see the same thing, would that be good?
Raising hands is not for everyone and not for every church, but DO be the last to condemn those who do...We DO find it in scripture!
How excited do you get at sporting events or your favorite hobby or game. What if you showed HALF of that excitement in worship? Would that change the way you worship? If not, then you may be more willing to give praise to people rather than to God...Ouch!
