The Right Directions

by Craig Castleberry

Theme: Witnessing, Explaining the Gospel so anyone can understand...

Scripture: “For God so loved the world that He gave his only Son, that whoever believes in Him would not die, but have eternal life.” John 3:16

Scene: A guy and a girl meet each other on stage and a conversation begins. The guy could be holding a map, but that is optional.

Guy: Hi.

Girl: Hi, long time no see!

Guy: Right! It has been a while.

Girl: So where are you going?

Guy: 5th and Main Street.

Girl: Well, it is nice to know where you are going.

Guy: And where are you going?

Girl: Heaven!

Guy: What?

Girl: I mean, not right away, but that is where I will end up.

Guy: Well, you might need directions to go there I guess. [Laughing to himself]

Girl: I have them already.

Guy: No way!

Girl: It’s no secret. Jesus has given us all directions if we will just follow. It is what we do with the directions that matter.

Guy: I don’t get it.

Girl: It’s like this. We need directions because we are lost, like a sinner. The only way to get where you need to go is following directions. By those directions, if you follow, you will get you to the right place.

Guy: For the first time, I think I understand!

Girl: It is easy isn’t it? We are lost, like sinners. We need directions...

Guy: Jesus!

Girl: When we follow...

Guy: We can go to heaven.

Girl: So when you pray, admit you are a sinner. Ask Jesus to be Lord of your life because the directions you had were the wrong ones. And then promise that you will follow Him for the rest of your life.

Guy: [Bows his head and prays silently for a few seconds] How can I thank you for taking the time to give me directions?

Girl: Just find someone else who needs directions and tell them what I told you. The great news is, when we all have the right directions being Jesus, we will all meet again in heaven and live with Him forever.

Guy: [Runs off stage]

Girl: Hey, where are you going?

Guy: [Stops and looks back] I just saw someone take a wrong turn, I need to give them directions!

Girl: [Talks out loud to herself] That was fast!

Bible Study Questions

Why did Jesus die for us? God loves us that much.

When you read John 3:16, put your name in place of “World.” It helps you realize how much God really does love you!

Should you just be happy with having Jesus in your heart? No, we should want to share the good news, the directions with everyone.
