The Armor of God
by Craig Castleberry
Scripture: Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Ephesians 6: 13-17
Theme: God's Protection, Strength, Assurance We often attempt to live without God's provisions.
Opening Scene: A registration manager sits at a table signing in athletes for different events. On the desk are numerous pieces of equipment pertaining to each field.
Manager: (Very Mannerly) Welcome to the All-Star Olympics. And what is the sport in which you will be participating?
Lady 1: Beach volleyball. I am a champion. (Carries in a volleyball)
Manager: I am sure. Well, all participants are required to use sunscreen due to the dangerous sun-rays these last few weeks.
Lady 1: Hah. Sunscreen. Who needs that? I will only be out there a few hours and I will probably win the tournament before that even. Give it to one of the losers in the tournament. (Walks away)
Manager: You'll be sorry. Next!
Man #1: Yes, I am here for the 3-man football match-up. (Country boy)
Manager: Very good. Here is your helmet. All participants are required to wear one of these.
Man #1: Huhuh. Yeah, I guess. If they are skeered (scared) or something. But, I ain't skeered so just show me the way!
Manager: (Points to the entrance to the games.) You will wish you had one.
Man #1: (Now offstage) Whatever!
Manager: This is NOT a good day. What is it with these people? They go do all of these dangerous things and don't care whether or not they are prepared. I don't get it. Next!
Man #2: Yes, I am on the skydiving team.
Manager: (Looking at the audience momentarily. Raising voice with each sentence.) PLEASE take the parachute. I beg of you. Your life depends on it, You can't do with out it! You will drop only to become a human pancake but with no Aunt Jamima. Don't do it. (Almost crying)
Man #2: Sir. I already have my parachute. I just need those goggles.
Manager: (Collecting himself) Oh, of course. Here you go. Just making a little skydiving humor there.
Man #2. (Giving him a strange look) How amusing. I will be going now.
Manager: I just need a vacation. Next.
Lady #2: Mountain Climbing.
Manager: Here is your rope.
Lady #2: A rope?
Manager: I QUIT. (Stands up and walks offstage in a hurry)
Lady #2): Hey, what do I do now?
Manager: (Offstage voice only) GO CLIMB A MOUNTAIN!
THE END
STUDY QUESTIONS
After mentioning that we should put on the full armor in verse 13 of Ephesians 6, what does it say to do next? Stand firm. Many times we don't stand still long enough for God to prepare us for the battle we must face each day. Daily prayer and being into God's word is so very important in our daily walk with Christ.
What is the sword of the Spirit? The Word of God
If the sword is a weapon to be fought with, then would it be safe to say that knowing God's word is extremely important in facing evil each and every day?
Are you prepared for battle?
