A New Lifestyle
by Melinda Braddy
Scripture: “You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God is holy.” Leviticus 19:2
Theme: By your lifestyle, people should see Jesus in you!
Scene: Opens with a conversation between two friends at a table and this can be at her home or at a café. The ladies are wearing every-day clothing.
Beth: Donna, I have noticed something about you.
Donna: Oh yeah? What would that be?
Beth: Well...You are just different.
Donna: What do you mean...different? (Donna has a look on her face like she knows where the conversation is going)
Beth: Yes, different. We have been friends for almost 10 years and I have been watching you. You have changed so much. Not so bad, by any means, but for the good. As a matter of fact, at time, I get a little jealous.
Donna: Really! Go on...
Beth: OK One thing I noticed is that you just don’t seem to grow tired of doing the Lord’s work. You are always positive and you don’t let the things of this world get in your way. Man, if I could only do that. Sometimes, I worry out everything!
Donna: Hey, I still get a little worried now and then and sometimes I grow a little tired...After all, I am only human. But, what I have found is a relationship so close to God, my Father, that it surpasses everything in this world.
Beth: Really? How do I get that? I mean, I really want to be in that place where I am totally sold out to God.
Donna: God wants us to be holy for He is holy. I can only tell you what I do and where I am in my walk with God.
Beth: Ready...
Donna: The first thing I had to do was give up the one thing I loved more than anything...
Beth: NOT YOUR HUSBAND!
Donna: (Laughing) No no. It was television. It took way too much of my time from God so I started reading the bible in place of it. That is when I really began to grow. God’s word came to life and I found my words change and I was much more positive. My heart began to change and I found myself being more compassionate toward others as Jesus was.
Beth: I see a lot of Jesus in you. I can tell you some very personal things and I know they go no further than you. What else makes a difference?
Donna: Alright, I also felt God was calling me to fast regularly, so I started doing that. It’s only a couple of days out of a month, but I could hear Him so clearly...He had my attention. During those times He gave me more direction and peace and the things of this world fell away. So, there were no distractions.
Beth: I had never thought of doing that. I wish I was that strong.
Donna: Well, it was God’s strength that got me through, not mine. Spending time with Him daily and praying for others has made a big difference for me. Remember, even when we are at our weakest, He is still so strong.
Beth: Oh, so it is a lifestyle change!
Donna: Yes, the BEST kind!
(Both walking offstage)
Beth: I could give up T.V.
Donna: You don’t even LIKE T.V.
Beth: Well, it’s a start.
Donna: How about shopping?
Beth: Ouch!
