“We Are All Sinners”

                                         by Stan Pencak

Scripture: “For all have sinned and come short of the Glory of God” Romans 3:23

Theme: Jesus is the only way because we all need God.

Scene: A Group Meeting of Sinners similar to Alcoholics Anonymous. The audience will be part of the Group. Overhead messages can be read by someone if you do not have multimedia.

Overhead: Welcome to the Weekly Meeting of Sinners Anonymous. The Group has just started. Won’t you join us?

S1: “ Hi! My name is (INSERT YOUR NAME HERE). I am a sinner. “

Audience and Group: “Hi (INSERT S1's NAME HERE)”

S1: “ I love my husband but I am a sin-aholic. I couldn’t stop. When I first got my computer, I used it for games and research. I would stay on for 30 minutes, then an hour, and soon I played all night long. The next day I was worthless at work. I had to take a nap just to make it through my work day. I was using it all the time. For everything and anything. I couldn’t stop. It was like gambling. I even used it shopping and ebay. Never sold anything but still I used until it satisfied my need. I planned trips I would never take with hotel.com. But Thanks to the forgiveness of Jesus, I am back in church and I no longer visit those sites. God used that and now I have a new job I like and can stay awake while I am working. It helped me get a raise last year!”

S2: “ Hi! My name is (INSERT YOUR NAME HERE). I am a sinner. “

Audience and Group: “Hi (INSERT S2's NAME HERE)”

S2: “ My story is that I loved to go shopping. My motto was Shop till you drop. Every weekend! To me shopping was like a sport. I went shopping when other men went to play golf! At first, I would shop but not buy. My Daddy was a shopper too. He had a new set of tires every year to match the season’s Car and Driver Magazine Cover. I fell in love and got married and stopped shopping. But my wife, she was into climbing the corporate ladder. She was a workaholic. When we had children, it got worse and she stopped needing me. She paid more attention to the children and her career than me. That is when I turned back to it. First it was tires, then tools, then boats. By the time I started buying things for the children and clothes, I maxed out my credit limit on 5 credit cards. I had no choice. I had to have that hammer. I didn’t get caught taking it but I then realized I needed help. I went to the one who could help me-Jesus. I went to his hospital - Raleigh Road Baptist Church. Jesus, grace, and Dr. Eddie’s sermon were the prescription I needed. Now I am on the road -step by step-day by day.”

S3: “ Hi! My name is (INSERT YOUR NAME HERE). I am a sinner. “

Audience and Group: “Hi (INSERT S3's NAME HERE)”

S3: “ I am an elder at the Church of the Right Way. Been there 7 years. Everybody always thought I was OK. I am a Christian but somehow I forgot that I was a sinner. Every time someone came to me to pray, I had to have all the details. Before I knew it, I was sharing that prayer request with others. I had to be better and more important than the Joneses. If I couldn’t do it in the world, than I would do it in church. I sat with the elders, ate with the Pastor, and fellowshipped with the music minister and his family. On Sunday Mornings, I taught Sunday School. I thought I was being spiritual even Godly asking for prayer. Then one day I realized that I was judging them and that as I judged so would I be judged. That is when I remembered that I was a sinner too even if I taught the Gifts of the Spirit and Fruits of the Spirit in Sunday School. Jesus helped me forgive myself and ask forgiveness from Him and others. Amazingly they forgave me. I am a recovering sinner. Keep praying for me.”

S4: “ Hi! My name is (INSERT YOUR NAME HERE). I am a sinner. “

Audience and Group: “Hi (INSERT S4's NAME HERE)”

S4: “ My deal- well you see me in every church. I am the perfect DAD. I am a success or at least I dress that way. All the guys wish they looked as good as me. See-Check it out. I have a successful career, balance my budget, a good looking successful wife, and 1.8 well behaved children! A perfect man except one thing, I was spiritually empty and lonely. It was those pain pills that started it. At first, I took them to stop the pain and to relax. I did social church and didn’t know Jesus. And then once a month I would get really rude to my wife. But when I took more pills, it helped me overcome that cycle. Soon it was one or two pills a day. The kids, the wife, the job..it was too much for me. It seems fun at the time when you take the pills and get high but eventually you pay the price. It seems someone had to pay the price. I am so glad Jesus paid the price for my sin and forgave me. Thank God. No more quick fixes for me!”

S5: “ Hi! My name is (INSERT YOUR NAME HERE). I am a sinner. “

Audience and Group: “Hi (INSERT S5's NAME HERE)”

S5: “ I am the opposite of (INSERT S4's NAME HERE). I could have been one of the characters on Friends except I am truly successful. I own my own company and I making millions per year. The American Dream. I didn’t need Jesus or any other man! I had my company, my church, and my friends but something was missing. The more time I spent on the job, the less at church and something was getting out of balance. One Friday night, I stopped with the team at Texas Steakhouse for a Steak and a Beer. It tasted good. The next week it was a White Wine. After that, it became a weekly and then daily ritual. You see things were so perfect, I couldn’t stand the success or the chance of failure. Then I realized no one but Jesus is perfect. So I went to Him for help. And when I asked him into my heart, I realized that Heaven will be perfect.”

S6: “ Hi! My name is (INSERT YOUR NAME HERE). I am a sinner. “

Audience and Group: “Hi (INSERT S6's NAME HERE)”

S6: “ I am an average man. I don’t stand out at church. Few people notice me. Fewer people say Hi! My family loves me and I love them. Strange isn’t it? I have exactly what every good man wants in a family. Somehow my wife stopped talking to me and I became depressed. I went to the doctor and he gave me a prescription. He told me that all men go through this. I only used it once a month at first then every week and then every day. But the depression got worse and I yelled at my family. No one could love me in that state, not even them. No one except Jesus. Thank goodness He forgave me and ste me free. He can forgive you too!”

S7: “ Hi! My name is (INSERT YOUR NAME HERE). I am a sinner. “

Audience and Group: “Hi (INSERT S7's NAME HERE)”

S7: “ I sort of represent all the rest of you. When I was a child, I was never picked to play sports, except last. As a teen, I was never cool. As an adult, I dated only a little. Church people made me feel awkward because they were married. Then I met (INSERT A NAME HERE). We fell in love and married. Within a few weeks, I realized that something was wrong. Within 5 years, I was divorced. The church made me feel worse. I was an outcast- all alone. Thank Goodness God didn’t reject me. I came back to Him. He accepted me as He does all of you. And when I accepted Him, I started to grow. I saw things different as I grew. I changed and I found a family at church where I belong whether I am single, married, divorced, or widowed in the future. It was because I became a Christian. I am part of Sinners Anonymous. Won’t you join us? ”

Front Overhead: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.” John 3:16-17

THE END

Bible Study Questions:

Are you a sinner?

Do you treat sinners as Jesus would?

Do you treat sinners as you would treat yourself?

Do you need forgiveness? Do you forgive?
