On the Air

by Craig Castleberry

Scripture:  Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed. As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance.  I Peter 1: 13-14

Theme:  Many times we may forget who we are as Christians...and Who we represent.  Including Christ in everything we do is not always easy.

Cast:  Eva, Jonathan, Jesus (Portrayed)

Props: Television (Or Box made to look like one), TV Remote (Does not need to work),  3 chairs or a bench for 3, Eva and Jonathan are dressed in school clothes, Jesus can wear a white robe and maybe a crown of thorns and even have a red mark on the each hand to depict where the nails were.

(Scene opens as a guy and a girl are watching TV together, laughing at a program on the air that is in very poor taste.  The television is not really on, they must pretend)

(Eva and Jonathan both point to the TV laughing and shaking their heads.)

Eva:  I can't believe they said that!

Jonathan:  I know, but it is so funny!  (Both laughing again)

(Both still watching and still pretending the TV is on.)

Eva:  Can they say that on national television?

Jonathan:  Well, they just did!

(Both still laughing)

Eva:  Now I know why my mom didn't want me to watch this show!

Jonathan:  And is she here?

(They both start laughing again responding to Jonathan's comment)

(Without noticing, from behind Jesus steps into the scene and walks in on the middle of their laughter.  He sits down between them and the laughter is hushed.)

Jonathan:  This is not good.

Eva:  Maybe it is very good.  (Pause as Jesus looks at each of them)  Jonathan, why don't you hand over the controls.

Jonathan:  (Without argument hands over the controls to Jesus and Jesus takes them, points it at the televisions and turns it off)

Jesus:  (Who never speaks, then stands up and places the remote where he was sitting)

Jonathan and Eva:  (Both kneel down and both say...)  Please forgive me.

Jesus:  (Holds out His arms and they both stand and hug Him and they walk out of the room together.

Jonathan:  Breaks away and runs back and picks up the remote.

Eva:  (Looking back )  Jonathan, what are you doing?

Jonathan:  I'm erasing that channel for good.  (And he catches back up to Eva)

THE END

Study Questions

Are we sometimes afraid to let Jesus get into the middle of our lives?  If He is in our hearts, why is that so difficult?  When we pray daily, we should pray that Jesus gets into the middle of our lives.  But, you will have to mean it.  Are you ready?
