Scripture: “Come to me all who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me for I am gentle and humble in heart and you will find rest for your souls.” Matthew 11:28-29

Theme: Jesus is the answer to all of our issues. Give it to Him.

Scene: An airport terminal. A bag with the word: “Anger”, a bag with the word “Jealousy”, a bag with the word “Fear”, and a bag with nothing on it. A person enters with papers in hand and grabs the bag with “Anger” on it and scowls and puts that bag down grumbles and acts angry .

Anger: “This is unbelievable! What has that airline done to my luggage? It is not only messed up but destroyed. “

Another person enters and grabs the bag with nothing on it and bumps into Anger and papers go flying everywhere. Nothing tries to pick up the papers and Anger. Dusting them off and handing them back to Anger.

Anger: “What’s the big rush? Why don’t you watch where you are going? If you aren’t careful you are going to make me real angry!”

Nothing: “I am so sorry! I wasn’t paying attention!”

Anger: Great! Look at this mess! I am late for a very important date!”

Nothing: “Where are you heading —Wonderland? .....Here let me help you with your bag!”

Anger: “Don’t touch that bag! It’s very special....It’s Top Secret. I’d have to Kill you if I told you where I am going because it would compromise National Security. Besides it’s not where I am going that is important, it is what I am carrying inside that matters.”

Nothing: “What are you carrying?”

Anger: “ If you really want to know, I have saved up a lifetime’s worth of pure and concentrated ANGER!”

Nothing: “ Did you say Anger?”

Anger: “That’s right, ANGER! Distilled from the finest of confrontations through the years.... I was happily married for 37 years....never yelled once....saved it all up in here.”

Nothing: “ What made you angry?”

Anger: “You name it! Friends, family, co-workers, situations, God, and people. Especially people who ask me why I am so ANGRY! “

Nothing: “I am really sorry! Say- isn’t all of that really heavy?”

Anger: “Heavier than a Sumu wrestler! But don’t touch it, because I’ve got it!”

Nothing: “Why do you carry such a heavy load around with you?”

Anger: “ Because that is who I am! SATISFIED?...Hey, what is in your case?”

Nothing: “Nothing!”

Anger: “What do you mean nothing? Come on there must be SOMETHING in there!”

Nothing: “No, there is nothing in there!”

Another person walks up and picks up the bag marked Jealousy.

Jealousy: Excuse me. I was wondering if you could tell me where to find....say...That is an awful nice bag you have there. Where did you get it? I’d love to have one like that! May I see it?”

Anger: “BACK AWAY FROM THAT BAG!”

Jealousy: “I was just admiring it!”

Anger: “ You can admire it just as well from three feet away!”

Jealousy: “I’ll trade you!”

Anger: “You had better back away, quit talking like that, and leave me alone! I don’t even know what you have in your bag!”

Jealousy: “ Not much. Shirts, Ties, A beautiful hotel towel...and Jealousy!”

Nothing: “You have Jealousy in your bag?”

Jealousy: “Yeah! I can always find someone who has something better and then I get more jealousy. Neat, huh?”

Nothing: “Don’t you get tired of that?”

Jealousy: “You know something is better than nothing but sometimes it does overwhelm me trying to outdo others!”

Nothing: “Then, why do you keep doing it?”

Jealousy: “I guess that is just who I am.....What do you have in your bag?”

Nothing: “Nothing!”

Anger: “I have asked but I can’t get an answer. It makes me real ANGRY when someone says NOTHING when you ask them a question!”

Jealousy: “If you have nothing, what do you have in your bag?”

Anger: “ANGER. You couldn’t tell?”

Jealousy: “No, but I’ve always want to get really angry! It must feel wonderful! Could I have a little?”

Anger: “NO! ABSOLUTELY NOT! I SAID NO AND I MEAN IT!”

Another person walks up very tentatively and gets the bag marked FEAR. They look around, drop the bag, point at a part of stage, and let out a scream.

Nothing: “What is it? Are you alright? What happened?

Fear: “Did you see them? Did you see them?

Nothing: “ Did we see who?

Fear: “That person!

Anger: “What person? Could you be a little more specific?

Fear: “You don’t fool me. You are all with them! I’ll never tell! Wild horses couldn’t drag it out of me!”

Nothing: “Listen you don’t have to say anything! You can say nothing if you want!”

Fear: “All Right! I’ll talk before it’s too late! They tried to take my bag to their car!”

Jealousy: “A beautiful new car! That is what I need!”

Anger: “What is in your bag, diamonds? Someone once stole my wife’s diamonds. I never recovered them. You don’t have my diamonds in there, do you? You’d better tell me if you do!”

Fear: “I am afraid that there are no diamonds! I’d be too afraid to wear them. I sure wouldn’t travel with them. That might scare me to death! But if you come closer, I’ll tell you!”

Everyone comes a little bit closer.

Fear: “A little bit closer!”

Everyone comes a little bit closer.

Fear: “Closer still!”

Everyone comes a little bit closer. Fear Lets out another scream and everyone backs away holding their ears.

Fear: “ I’m sorry, but you got too close and I am afraid of being surrounded by people. I’ve got Fear in my bag. Shhhh! Don’t scare anyone! What is in your bag?”

Nothing: “Nothing!”

Fear: “It’s a lie. You are hiding something!”

Nothing: “I’ve got nothing to hide!”

Anger: “People who lie get me very ANGRY!”

Fear: “There is something in there! I just know it!”

Nothing: “That’s ridiculous. You are making something out of nothing!”

Jealousy: “If there is really diamonds in there, I’ll trade you! ...Wait.....I hear something ticking!”

Fear: “There is a bomb in there!”

For a second or two, Fear, Jealousy, and Anger all run towards the audience and say “Someone Please Help Us!”

Fear: “Wait! Quiet! Nobody Move! The slightest movement could set it off!”

Everyone Freezes. Another person walks towards them.

Witness: “ We have a free shuttle service at this airport. May I take anyone’s bag for them?”

Anger: “Take my bag of anger....don’t you dare touch it? I am out of here!

Anger picks up the bag roughly and walks off grumbling and mumbling angrily as they leave!

Witness: “What about you? May I interest you in our free service?

Jealousy: “No, but I will trade you for that car and your keys. ....Never mind, I see a lady with a beautiful necklace. ...Later...Bye!

Jealousy picks up the bag and says something about Lady wait I’ll trade you as they leave.

Witness: “What about you?

Fear: “No, I am afraid I have to go. Traffic scares me and I am afraid I will get in rush hour. Goodbye.”

Fear exits running and screams one last time as they leave.

Nothing: “Have you ever seen people make such a fuss over nothing?

Witness: “What do you mean?

Nothing: “I mean they are carrying around things with them that are so difficult and heavy. If it was me, I would want to get rid of that heavy stuff.

Witness: “ Sometimes people carry things around that they are used to carrying because they are comfortable with it. And they don’t trust anyone to take it. They are not even interested in our Exchange Program!

Nothing: “Sounds Interesting! How does it work?

Witness: “We’ll replace depression with joy, doubt with hope, anger with peace, jealousy with contentment, and fear with love.

Nothing: “That is wonderful and you said it was free of charge. I wish I had something to exchange!

Witness: “What is in your suitcase?

Nothing: “Nothing!”

Nothing opens up the suitcase which has nothing in it.

Nothing: “You see it’s empty. Nothing in it!”

Witness: “I’d be happy to exchange nothing for something. What do you say?

Nothing: “Sounds great! How go I do that? Since I am comfortable with nothing and nothing is all I’ve ever known, how do I give up nothing?

Witness: “I will introduce you to someone who can help your burdens whether they are heavy or nothing. I will introduce you to Him. Check out the flight monitors above. “

Monitors come on with: “Come to me all who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me for I am gentle and humble in heart and you will find rest for your souls.” Matthew 11:28-29

Witness reads the scripture and then they walk off together talking about Jesus.

THE END

Bible Study:

Is it harder to give up thing or nothing?

Are you holding on to something or nothing?

Pray for the person to the right of you that they would give it all to Jesus.
